GHSC-PSM country and home office staff worked closely with the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Quality Assurance project and Ministry of Health officials in both countries. The transfer shipment included 54,418 three-cycle packs of the oral contraceptives valued at approximately $49,000 to Zambia, where there was a greater need for them.

GHSC-PSM learned of the contraceptive overstock through the Procurement Planning and Monitoring Report (PPMR), which captures country-by-country information on contraceptive stock, shipment statuses, and other contraceptive security data from family planning programs. The increased data visibility and global coordination the PPMR provides helps reduce contraceptive stockouts and waste that results from product expiration.
