The Ethiopian Hospital Services Transformation Guidelines is owned by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and is designed to help hospital chief executive officers (CEOs), managers, clinicians and pharmacists ensure the consistent implementation of transformation systems and processes in Ethiopian hospitals. This document represents the Pharmacy Service section of those guidelines, which has been updated with information on new initiatives including Auditable Pharmaceutical Transactions and Services (APTS) and clinical pharmacy services.

Ethiopia's Pharmaceuticals Fund and Supply Agency, with the support of the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project, launched a study to identify workplace segregation and the gender-related factors that contribute to segregation in the supply chain workforce. This technical brief provides an overview of the study and its results, which seek to guide the recruitment of women into jobs traditionally considered the province of men and to address the larger shortage of supply chain managers in Ethiopia’s health sector.

This Quarterly Report summarizes GHSC-PSM's activities and outcomes for Year 3, Quarter 3, April 1 to June 30, 2018. In this quarter, GHSC-PSM procured and delivered $194 million in health commodities, expanded its country presence to 33 field offices by adding Sierra Leone, and achieved a 73 percent average on-time delivery rate.

GHSC-PSM is exploring the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to move HIV/AIDS supplies and other health commodities through public health supply chains to serve hard-to-reach health facilities. This Quarterly Report summarizes GHSC-PSM's activities and outcomes for Year 3, Quarter 2, January 1 to March 31, 2018. In this quarter, the project procured $301 million and delivered $187 million in health commodities, an increase of $43.8 million and $11.3 million, respectively, over Q1. GHSC-PSM also expanded its country presence to 32 field offices — adding Mali to the countries supported with technical assistance.

The Pipeline Monitoring and Procurement Planning System (PipeLine) was designed to enable program managers to plan optimal procurement and shipment schedules for health commodities and to monitor the stock status of health products. Program managers can use PipeLine to assist in planning, to estimate future product needs in terms of quantities and costs, and to monitor the status of their procurement plans.
