The TIOP minimum viable product (MVP) is a pilot program to develop a data-sharing prototype for exchanging serialized traceability data between trading partners in response to emerging regulatory requirements in LMICs. It tests a semi-centralized architecture using a designated point of access equipped with a trading partner directory.
The anticipated benefits of this approach include:
- Equipped with a directory look-up service, the interoperability provides a central point to route traceability information to intended parties
- A central point of access simplifies security management and enforces data access rules
- Enables transformation of messages ensuring that traceability information is shared in standardized formats
- Simplifies how suppliers share traceability information with donors, procurement agents, and countries without multiple point-to-point connections
- Simplifies how countries can receive traceability information without multiple point-to-point connections or buy-into a single central repository
The TIOP pilot is currently being implemented among two ARV manufacturers, USAID, and the Nigeria National Authority for Food and Drug Control (NAFDAC). We are looking forward to sharing the results and lessons learned.
